Created in 2022, On The Ball has built a following of more than 6,000 subscribers interested in the latest funding opportunities, competitions and networking events in sport. More than 800 opportunities have been shared with the sector during this time, and there is plenty more to come!
Today, we are over the moon to announce that On The Ball will now be brought to you by the team at Remedy. Launched in early 2024 by Rahul Bissoonauth and Luke Southall, Remedy is fast-becoming the leading service provider in fundraising within sport for good. Their focus and commitment to building capacity, improving fundraising readiness and equipping sport for good organisations all over the world with new fundraising skills perfectly aligns with our own ambitions for On The Ball.
What does this mean for you, our readers? On The Ball will continue to share fortnightly opportunities in our current format and to our usual standard. Over the next few weeks, you’ll spot some minor tweaks to our branding and prose.

Firstly, the last remaining early bird tickets for Remedy’s Sport Fundraising Summit are on sale until Friday 1st November. Uniting 200 sport for good fundraisers to share their wisdom and fundraising experiences, sessions on grant making, corporate partnerships, institutional fundraising, fundraising strategy and much more will take place across the day. Confirmed speakers include the likes of Comic Relief, GIZ, Laureus Sport for Good, and Dallaglio RugbyWorks with many more to be announced. Don’t miss this opportunity to network with experts in the field of fundraising in sport, taking place on the 26th February 2025, in London.
The Weiss Asset Management (WAM) Foundation has recently opened its Autumn 2024 funding round. This time, the priority areas for targeted funding are nutrition and mental health around the world. Although the approach may vary, WAM Foundation is looking for initiatives that have potential for cost-effective scaling and impact, as well as research that will contribute to creating programmes and initiatives in the future. Prospective applicants are encouraged to submit a proposal for feedback prior to applying, so that they can find out if their proposal is within the remit of the WAM Foundation. Available grants range from $500,000 to $1.5 million, and the deadline for application is 22nd November 2024.
Delivery organisations that work to reduce youth involvement in violence are invited to apply to the Youth Endowment Fund’s (YEF) Open Call funding round. Eligible projects will primarily support children and young people aged 10-18 and will work in one of the following sectors: youth sector, children’s services, youth justice, policing, neighbourhoods, health and education. Only well-established projects that are ready for a rigorous impact evaluation will be successful as the YEF wants the projects it funds to contribute to evidence building. Applications are split into part one - a detailed summary of the project and beneficiaries - and part two - further detail about the project and the delivery organisation. Project delivery is limited to England and Wales and the Open Call has no fixed closing date.
Over in the USA, the Wavedance Fund is supporting nonprofit organisations located and operating in northern Nevada that work to create positive outcomes for vulnerable and at-risk children. In line with the fund’s priorities, these children may have experienced neglect, abuse or adversity. Proposals should be for new programmes to ameliorate outcomes and prospects for these young people, such as by developing their life skills and self-esteem. Four grants are available, ranging from $100,000 to $600,000, and the deadline for applications is 13th December 2024.
Now for an international opportunity for non-governmental organisations and charitable entities working in low- and middle-income countries. Panorama Global is currently inviting applications for its Type 1 Diabetes Community Fund, offering both core and project-specific funding for organisations that are working to improve the lives of people living with type 1 diabetes. This support may fall under medical, social, economic or emotional care. Priorities for this funding are to evoke positive change through community impact, to encourage collaboration between community-based organisations, and to learn from needs and challenges to better support target beneficiaries in the future. Funding generally ranges from USD $10,000 to $40,000 per year for up to three years. The deadline is 9th December 2024.
The Como Foundation is inviting partnership proposals from charitable organisations that share its ambition of transforming communities through their women and girls and thus closing the gender opportunity gap. The Foundation maintains that families and communities thrive when women and girls are educated, engaged and economically secure. As such, successful applications for partnership will focus on developing women and girls socially, culturally and economically. The Foundation’s ecosystem of partnership and philanthropy means that funding is discretionary and long term. There are no geographical limitations for partnership, including both the organisation’s location and delivery sites. Applications for partnership are accepted on an ongoing basis.
Back in the USA, financial support for nonprofit organisations and school/government-run sports programmes in disadvantaged communities that provide community-based recreational sports for young people aged 5-18 is available from All Kids Play. The purpose of this funding opportunity is to increase quality youth sports participation in the United States by increasing access to safe and healthy sports-related play. Eligible organisations will operate in areas of significant socio-economic deprivation, e.g., where the average household income is lower than 60% of the estimated state median income by household size. There is no published application deadline.
Supporting non profit organisations within the USA, the Hearst Foundation is welcoming applications for projects aiming to build healthy, productive, and satisfying lives. The foundation largely focuses on culture, education, health, and social services, to create sustainable employment and productive career paths for adults, improve health, and increase academic achievement. To be eligible, organisations need to operate with audited expenses of greater than $2million and have their work serve larger demographic or geographic constituencies. Organisations can apply for a minimum of $100,000 USD and there is no set deadline to apply to this rolling fund.
Back over in the UK, The Ansvar Programme of Giving is back with their 2024 giving programme, with a donation pot of £75,000 to support charities promoting healthy lifestyle choices to children and young people. This year’s pot is being split across three charities - two national, and one within Brighton and Hove, offering £25,000 a year for three years to each. To be eligible, organisations must be a registered charity, and should submit a 250 word expression of interest, those successful in this round will be invited to the next round of application. The deadline for stage one is the 4th of November at 5pm (GMT)
The Angus Irvine Playing Fields Fund is welcoming applications that provide targeted support to the lives of young people in troubled communities through sport and physical activities. The funds can be spent on the development of playing fields/facilities, the training of volunteers, specialist disability equipment, long-term sustainability, and operational costs. Community groups and sports clubs should be based in Greater Manchester, Oxfordshire, Greater London, or the West Midlands, and by working in a ward within the top 20% Indices of Multiple Deprivation. Most grants provided are £5,000 or less (match funding is required), however for exceptional, community driven projects, more funding may be offered on a case by case basis. The current grant window will be closing on the 31st of December at 1pm GMT, to be reviewed by the committee in January 2025.
An exclusive opportunity for TAFISA members to host the Girls Positive and Safe Coaching Pathway. Projects should aim to address key issues related to gender equity in Sports, and will be supported with access to expert-led training materials, toolkits, and ongoing support to implement best practices within their local communities. Eligible organisations will need to be able to engage at least 30 participants per session, and be committed to safeguarding, gender equity, new learning pathways, and the wider coaching community. Successful grantees will receive up to $10,000 USD, the fund closes on the 5th of December so all applications need to be received ahead of this date.
Over in Ireland, Rethink Ireland has announced a fund advocating for greater disability participation and awareness through the Participation and Awareness Fund 3.0. The fund will focus on helping those with disabilities, particularly those with Autism, to fully and equally participate in social, cultural, artistic, and sports activities. The fund has four programme strands which can be applied to, covering all of their priority areas, but projects should focus on being delivered with the Republic of Ireland. Charitable organisations can apply for grants ranging between 50,000 EUR to 156,000 EUR The deadline to apply is the 8th of November.
